Vibrators

The single biggest mistake people make when buying a vibrator is choosing by looks alone. Shape matters a lot more than most buyers expect. A curved toy aimed at the G-spot feels completely different from a flat lay-on model designed for broad external stimulation, even if both look roughly the same size in a product photo.

Motor placement is the other thing worth understanding before you buy. Toys where the motor sits at the tip deliver focused, pinpoint sensation. Models where the motor runs through the whole body produce a deeper, more diffuse rumble. Neither is objectively better, but if you've tried one type and found it underwhelming, the other might be exactly what you were missing.

Material is straightforward: stick to body-safe silicone, ABS plastic, or stainless steel. These are non-porous, easy to clean, and compatible with water-based lubricant. Avoid anything labelled "jelly" or "realistic skin" without a clear material declaration, those often contain plasticisers that degrade over time.

Noise level is a real consideration that rarely gets mentioned in product descriptions. Cheaper motors tend to run louder. If discretion matters to you, look for models marketed specifically as quiet, or check user reviews for comments on sound. The air pressure vibrators in our range are notably quieter than traditional motor-driven toys, which is one reason they've become so popular.

Knowing the difference between categories saves a lot of guesswork.

• Clitoral vibrators, designed for external use, usually compact, often the best starting point if you're new to this.
• Curved G-spot vibrators, angled tip targets the front wall of the vagina; most effective with a firm, rumbly motor rather than a buzzy one.
• Rabbit vibrators, dual stimulation, internal and external at the same time. The Svakom DuoGlow Pastel Lilac is a good example of a modern rabbit that doesn't feel bulky.
• Wand massagers, large head, strong motor, broad stimulation. Originally sold as back massagers, now openly one of the most popular toy formats around.
• Bullet vibrators, small, precise, often the most affordable entry point. Underrated for how much power some of them pack.
• Egg vibrators, rounded shape, often remote-controlled; see our full egg vibrators collection for the current range.
• Finger vibrators, worn on the finger for hands-on control; good for couples use.
• Lay-on vibrators, flat profile, rests against the body; the broad surface area makes them popular for people who find pinpoint stimulation too intense.
• Panty vibrators, worn inside underwear, usually app-controlled. Lovense makes some of the most reliable options in this format.

Air pressure models deserve a separate mention. The air pressure vibrators category uses suction and pressure waves rather than vibration, technically a different mechanism entirely, though they're grouped here because the use case overlaps. The Satisfyer Pro 2 Generation 3 is probably the most recognised product in this space, and it's earned that reputation.

Satisfyer built its name on accessible pricing without cutting corners on motor quality. The Pro 2 Generation 3 remains one of the best-selling products we carry, and it's held that position for years, not because of marketing, but because it consistently delivers.

We-Vibe specialises in couples toys and app-connected models. Their build quality is excellent and the app is one of the more stable ones in this category (Lovense's app is arguably better for long-distance use, but We-Vibe wins on hardware finish).

Womanizer invented the pressure-wave format and still makes some of the most refined versions of it. If you've tried a cheaper air-pressure toy and found it uncomfortable, a Womanizer model is often the fix, the nozzle geometry is noticeably better engineered.

Svakom is worth paying attention to if you want something a bit different. The Klitty Clitoral Stimulator and the Rabbit DuoGlow both show a design sensibility that goes beyond just copying established formats.

Romp sits at the more affordable end of the quality spectrum, the Pink Peach is a solid compact option if budget is a real constraint. Don't expect the same motor depth as a We-Vibe, but for the price it's genuinely good.

Silicone toys can be cleaned with mild soap and warm water, or a dedicated toy cleaner. If a silicone toy is non-motorised, you can boil it or run it through the dishwasher (top rack, no detergent) for a deeper clean. Motorised toys obviously can't go in boiling water, wipe down thoroughly and let them air dry before storing.

One thing that catches people out: silicone lubricant degrades silicone toys. Always use water-based lube with silicone products. Pjur's water-based range works well and doesn't dry out quickly.

Storage matters more than most people think. Keep toys in individual pouches or the original box, loose in a drawer means they're picking up dust and potentially reacting with other materials. Most quality toys come with a storage bag; use it.

Battery-operated models should have batteries removed for long-term storage. Rechargeable toys should be stored with a partial charge rather than fully drained.

A clitoral vibrator uses a motor to create physical vibration against the skin. An air pressure toy (like the Satisfyer Pro 2 or Womanizer models) uses a sealed chamber and pressure waves to stimulate without direct contact. Many people find air pressure more intense with less overstimulation, but it's genuinely personal, some prefer the directness of a traditional vibrating toy.

For most people, yes. Medical-grade silicone is non-porous, body-safe, easy to clean, and durable. Stainless steel and borosilicate glass are also excellent, they're firm, temperature-responsive, and completely non-porous. ABS plastic (used in many bullet vibrators) is also safe. The materials to avoid are unlabelled "jelly" or "realistic" compounds, which can contain phthalates and degrade over time.

Yes, and it's usually recommended. Use water-based lubricant with silicone toys, silicone-based lube reacts with silicone material and can damage the surface over time. Water-based lube is safe with all toy materials and easy to clean up.
